Cervical Disk Replacement Surgery
Cervical Disk Replacement Surgery
Cervical disk replacement (CDR) involves removing of the part of cervical disc which is compressing nerve root in cervical spine, and replacing it with artificial disk. This procedure is relatively new, in the past the herniated/slipped disk was removed and the vertebrae in the cervical spine were fused together using intervertebral spaced. This surgery prevented motion of the fused spine. The cervical disk replacement (CDR) surgery is a new treatment approved by FDA, and it has advantage of preserving close to natural range of motion of the affected cervical spine segment. Most importantly, it creates significantly less stress forces on adjacent disks and may prevent faster damage of neighbouring disks as compared to traditional cervical disc fusion.
